Bloomberg Television, Dish TV’s Business Eye
66Dish TV on a Business Mission
Satellite TV came into existence with the intention of entertaining people. The network started with a host of channels that would regale people with movies, music, soaps, drama and occasionally provide news. Soon the news updated started increasing. There were news channels that would exclusively broadcast news. But people started feeling the need for more than just basic entertainment and news updates. With that demand came in channels that provided its subscribers channels which would give information on business and finance. Bloomberg Television is one such dish TV channel that is dedicated to provide news updates on business and finance.
Bloomberg TV is a 24-hour global channel that has been catering to the needs of its viewers for quite sometime. This is an international channel and reaches to more than 200 million homes worldwide. Since his channel offers its services to people all over the world, its counterpart offices are there in every nook and corner of the world. Earlier there were headquarters in Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Spain. But now with every head quarter, the channel has a different name. Some of them are Bloomberg UTV (India), Bloomberg Europe (London), Bloomberg Brazil (Sao Paulo) and Bloomberg HT (Turkey).
Other than quality programs on the Dish TV channel like Global Connection, Startup, The Pulse and Asia Morning Call, there are well known talk shows also. Some of them are hosted by famous journalists like Charlie Rose and Judy Woodruff. Not only does this channel broadcast shows of great stature, it also provides funding and studio facilities for the show nightly show of Charlie Rose. With time as the popularity of the channel grew, it started a new channel, Bloomberg International. It was only at this time that the parent company decided to stop operations of the channels running in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Japan. They took this decision as they wanted to concentrate more on the newly launched channel. The International channel provides programming from Hong Kong in the morning, from London late morning, followed by New York in the afternoon.
But the channel faced a lot of heat in 2005. Despite its popularity, the Dish TV channel was faced with a lot of serious allegation. It was in UK that Bloomberg TV was accused of breach of Ofcom rules during the general elections. Here the satellite TV channel did not give equal footage to the Labor Party and the Conservatives. They were partial about the former and gave them air time during the release of their “Business Manifesto”. But other than this there has been no major brawl.
Bloomberg Television has a lot of competitors too. Some of the well known ones can be listed as BBC World News, Sky News Business Channel, CNN International, Euro News, Channel NewsAsia and Deutsche Welle. It is for the competitors that we understand our true worth!
